About Isaac Frimpong Arthur 🇬ðŸ‡
I am an Assistant Fisheries Manager at the Western Regional Directorate of the Fisheries Commission of Ghana. Currently, I serve as the commission’s representative for Post-Harvest Management and Gender within the region, with specific oversight of the Jomoro Municipality.
My academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources Management from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. I possess a Certificate in Fisheries Management from the University of Cape Coast and a Diploma in Human Resource Management from the Institute of Commercial Management (UK, distant learning). Furthermore, I have completed a certificate program in Greenhouse Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems through an intensive training program organized by Agritop at the National Aquaculture Training Center in Accra.
Prior to my current role, I gained valuable experience as a Community Liaison Officer for several modules under the USAID-funded Sustainable Fisheries Management Project (now Ghana Fisheries Recovery Activity) and the West Africa Regional Fisheries Programme (WARFP) in the Jomoro District. During this period, I served as a National Service Personnel and later as a volunteer with the Fisheries Commission of Ghana. My responsibilities included organizing grassroots stakeholder meetings, assisting with field activities to promote sustainable fisheries management, participating in research and local capacity-building programs for fisherfolk, and providing aquaculture extension services.
I have also contributed to various research and projects undertaken by the Fisheries Commission, NGOs, and private individuals. Notably, I played a key role in the planning and implementation of the project, “Promoting Aquaprenuership in the Western Region, Ghana” (2020-2023) initiated by GIZ in partnership with the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development and Fisheries Commission. This project aimed to foster sustainable growth within the Ghanaian aquaculture industry by creating employment opportunities for youth along the aquaculture value chain. My contributions included assisting with training beneficiaries on Farm Management Practices, Fish Processing and Value Addition, and Marketing. Through these experiences, I have cultivated a deep commitment in advancing aquaculture development in Ghana, fostering sustainable fisheries management, promoting gender equity in the sector.
