Call for Abstracts – Africa Aquatic Animal Welfare (AQUAWEL) Conference 2025

The Africa Aquatic Animal Welfare (AQUAWEL) Conference 2025 invites researchers, professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders in fisheries, aquaculture, One Health, and animal welfare to submit abstracts for presentation at this pan-African virtual conference.

This event serves as a key platform for discourse, knowledge exchange, and collaboration on fish and aquaculture welfare across the continent, bringing together experts to advance sustainable, ethical, and welfare-driven aquaculture practices in Africa.

Conference Themes
We welcome abstracts that align with the following thematic areas:

  • Global Best Practices in Fish and Aquaculture Welfare – Insights from leading Research and Case Studies Worldwide.
  • Afrocentric Knowledge & Research on Fish and Aquaculture Welfare – Indigenous knowledge, local research, and context-driven solutions.
  • Fish and Aquaculture Welfare in African Production Systems – Challenges, opportunities, and innovative practices.
  • Legal and Policy Frameworks for Fish and Aquaculture Welfare – Strengthening governance and regulatory frameworks.
  • Fish and Aquaculture Welfare in One Health – Integrating aquatic welfare into the broader One Health approach.
  • Sustainable Practices and Innovations in Fish and Aquaculture Welfare – Advances in technology, sustainability, and welfare-friendly production.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy – Strategies for movement-building, multi-sectoral collaboration, and policy influence.

Submission Guidelines
Abstracts should be 250–300 words, clearly outlining:

  • Background 
  • Objectives
  • Methodology
  • Key Findings

Submissions must include:

  • Title of the paper
  • Author(s) name(s)
  • Institutional affiliation(s)
  • Contact details (Email address and Phone number)

All abstracts must be submitted in English.

Presentation Formats
Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to present their work in one of the following formats:

  • Oral Presentations – Live virtual presentations followed by Q&A.
  • Poster Presentations – Digital posters with scheduled discussions.
  • Panel Discussions – Selected abstracts may be featured in expert panels for cross-sectoral discussions.

Review & Selection Criteria
All abstracts will undergo a peer review process and be evaluated based on:

  1. Relevance to the conference themes
  2. Scientific rigor and originality
  3. Practical impact and contribution to policy or practice

Selected authors will receive detailed presentation guidelines upon acceptance.

  • Notification of Acceptance: May 15, 2025
  • Final Presentation Submission (if applicable): May 30, 2025
