Introducing Keynote Speaker for AQUAWEL Conference 2025 – Dr. Mohamed Elaraby

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Mohamed El-Sayed El-Araby Mohamed, one of North Africa’s most dynamic and influential aquaculture experts, will be joining the Africa Aquatic Animal Welfare (AQUAWEL) Conference 2025 as a Keynote Speaker.

With a career that spans diverse aquaculture systems and strategic advisory roles, Dr. Elaraby brings a wealth of expertise, innovation, and regional insight to the AQUAWEL platform. Based in Cairo, Egypt, Dr. Elaraby holds a PhD in Fish Production from the Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University (2019), and has played a significant role in transforming aquaculture practice and policy across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

A Visionary Leader in Integrated and Sustainable Aquaculture

Dr. Elaraby’s professional journey reflects his deep engagement across the aquaculture value chain—from technical fieldwork to international governance. His work includes, Freshwater aquaculture, Integrated Agri-Aquaculture Systems (IAAS) in arid lands, Mariculture and marine reproduction, and the Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) system, which exemplifies environmentally responsible fish farming.

His extensive field knowledge is complemented by his strategic leadership roles in national and regional institutions. After early success in Egypt’s private aquaculture sector, he went on to serve as Advisor to the Chairman of Egypt’s General Authority for Fish Resources Development (GAFRD). Today, he continues his impact as:

  • Director of the Technical Support Unit of the Lake Fisheries Resources Protection and Development Agency (LFRPDA),
  • Director of the Market Access and Development of Enterprises (MADE) II Project,
  • First Vice Chairman of the Committee on Aquaculture (CAQ) at the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM),
  • Vice General Secretary (Finance) for North Africa in the African Network of Aquaculture Centres (ANAF).

Bridging Science, Innovation, and Regional Collaboration

Dr. Elaraby is recognized across Africa and the Mediterranean for his ability to bridge science with practical innovation and for leading collaborative programs that improve fisheries management, aquatic animal health, production systems, and environmental sustainability.

At AQUAWEL 2025, his keynote address will explore cutting-edge aquaculture strategies that respond to Africa’s unique environmental, economic, and social contexts—particularly:

  • The role of integrated aquaculture systems in arid and water-scarce regions,
  • Enhancing fish welfare and environmental health in large-scale production systems,
  • Regional opportunities for collaboration and policy alignment through platforms such as the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) and African Network of Aquaculture Centres (ANAF),
  • The future of climate-resilient, welfare-centered aquaculture in Africa.

Dr. Elaraby’s participation will offer valuable knowledge on how to scale sustainable fish farming models while prioritizing animal welfare, innovation, and cross-border collaboration—key pillars of the Africa Fish Welfare (AFIWEL) Project and the AQUAWEL Conference mission.

An Invitation to Learn and Collaborate

As we gather researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and innovators from across Africa and beyond, Dr. Elaraby’s keynote promises to ignite critical conversations on the future of aquaculture that balances productivity, ethics, and ecological integrity. His voice is a powerful addition to the AQUAWEL stage, and his presence reaffirms our shared commitment to sustainable aquatic food systems rooted in One Health values.

Stay tuned for more speaker spotlights and agenda updates. Join us at AQUAWEL 2025 as we work toward a more just, sustainable, and welfare-driven aquaculture future for Africa.
